Byron Bay based fine fragrance candle brand Posie has released their newest scent, inspired by their journey around Japan. JAU had the opportunity to meet with the makers behind Posie during the exact trip that inspired this scent so we were extra excited to see how it would turn out!

HUE
HUE is a soy wax candle featuring a blend of wood notes of Hinoki, Cedar wood and Sandalwood. The scent tone is woody, warming and calming and is perfect for a grounding winters night. Available in 250g, enclosed in an amber glass jar.

HUE is a fragrance born from the serene and soul-stirring beauty we encountered during a transformative journey to Japan in March 2023. As we wandered through the streets of Tokyo, the picturesque canals of Kurashiki, and the tranquil landscapes of Awaji Island, we found ourselves surrounded by a spectrum of blue—an ever-changing and deeply evocative colour that became our muse.
The vibrant hues of blue were not just in the sky, but in the soft, subtle tones of traditionally dyed textiles, tiled buildings and rooftops, street signs, or even the delicate napkin at lunch. It was as if the entire country had been painted in hues of blue, each unique, revealing a different emotion and texture at every turn.
Our senses were further heightened by the presence of wood, which seemed to breathe life into the surroundings. Traditional homes and temples, crafted from aged Japanese wood, displayed the interplay of light and shadow, revealing the subtle variations in grain and texture as the day progressed.
The air was often filled with the comforting scent of Japanese cypress, Hinoki wood found in Hinoki onsens. A scent with its natural, woody notes, became synonymous with relaxation and ritual.
It was during these moments on our travels the idea for HUE took shape. We wanted to capture the essence of calm, the play of light and shadow, the textures of wood, and the many tones of blue that painted the landscape. We sought to create a fragrance that was not just a scent but a transportive experience.
