Memories from their Thailand Trip

Downtempo, Nostalgic, Freeing

My 'Incense music' selection for this week is Pratunam by Marigold Sun. Marigold Sun is Singaporean-Australian musician Eric Li Harrison. In this album, he collaborates with Nick Sheppard, former lead-guitarist of British punk rock band The Clash and The Cortina’s.

Nick Sheppard & Marigold Sun - Pratunam

Pratunam is named after a neighbourhood and marketplace in Bangkok, memories the two musicians experienced while visiting Thailand in 2019 - I think they named the songs on the albums very literally. The song titles match the vibe - spot on.

In the song “Aeroplane”, I could definitely feel the sense of looking out the window onto a vast ocean, as I fly into Bangkok. "Kata Noi”, which is a beach island, evokes feelings of beachside vibes. “Honeymoon” is a continuation of the vibe of "Kata Noi", more uplifting and and positive.

The last two songs of the album, evoke feelings of drunkenly wondering through the bustling city (Pratunam) and finally coming to rest, late night, alone (Dusk). The vocals on these final two songs adding sense of a wondering, unfocused mind.
